women supporting science and eachother

Since its founding in 1970, the Texas Biomedical Forum has been focused on supporting San Antonio’s Texas Biomedical Research Institute through community relations, volunteer services and fundraising. A membership based organization comprised of women over the age of 21, The Forum hosts education and social events each year to raise money to fund pilot studies for scientists. These grants provide critical seed funding for projects and equipment at Texas Biomed and lead to more innovative research and therapies. Over the past 19 years, The Forum has awarded more than $5.6 million in pilot studies, which has been used to leverage over $90 million in subsequent competitive grants for Texas Biomed scientists to continue their work – an impressive return.

In addition to providing pilot grants supporting Texas Biomed’s mission of powering scientific discovery, The Forum is a key partner in advancing its education programs. The Institute has created a rich learning environment by prioritizing the education of K-12 youth all the way to undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students. The education programs aim to excite and motivate K-12 students to pursue higher education and STEM careers. The Texas Biomed’s unique campus and expertise provide exceptional opportunities to foster hands-on learning for next generation of biomedical researchers that will continue the innovation pipeline.

As we look ahead, the Forum is excited to also support the innovative work of new faculty members. These funds will provide critical resources for their new labs, including essential instrumentation and supplies. Our support of both Pilot Study Grants and new faculty members will serve as a catalyst for innovative and groundbreaking science, and enhance researchers’ competitiveness for extramural fundraising. Together, we are advancing the frontiers of science and shaping a brighter future for research.
